Feeling that you have a sense of purpose in life may help you live longer, according to research published in Psychological Science magazine (http://www.psychologicalscience.org). “Our findings point to the fact that finding a direction for life, and setting overarching goals for what you want to achieve can help you actually live longer, regardless of age,” says researcher Patrick Hill, from Carleton University, in Canada. “So, the earlier you come to a direction for life, the earlier these protective effects may be able to occur.”
Previous studies have suggested the importance of finding a purpose in life, but in the ranking of well-being indicators, it comes after other factors, such as affective relations and positive emotions.
